MHA – Management in Healthcare Administration comprises of the following study clusters:

  • Financing of healthcare and insurance

The course is designed to impart a working knowledge of introductory accounting and financial management concepts, techniques, and vocabulary as they apply to health care organizations including physician practices, academic medical hospitals, medical device and therapeutics suppliers, and insurance companies. This course will explore management principles, operational strategies, capital budgeting, and ways that health care organizations use financial markets to raise funds and invest in projects.

  • Healthcare quality management

This course focuses on the significant challenges the health care system faces in improving quality and patient safety while trying to contain the explosive growth of health care system expenditures. Certain lectures examine how health care quality is measured, where it stand today, and the business case for improving safety and quality. Certain lectures build on that foundation in looking to the world for how they run their health care systems. It will also discuss current innovative approaches to reforming the current health care system and policies related to quality.

  • Healthcare services management

This course is designed to provide an overview of the forces, which are influencing the shape and evolution of the health services system. The course will identify the managerial challenges these forces have on processes within healthcare facilities. The course will expand on the issues of process analysis, quality management and their impact on customer satisfaction. It will specifically cover strategies for process analysis, design, and improvement for health care, the impact of process improvement on customers, and continuous quality improvement including the Six Sigma Paradigm.

  • Managerial economics

Managerial Economics is the application of economic theory and methodology to managerial decision making problems within various organizational settings such as a firm or a government agency.  The emphasis in this course will be on demand analysis and estimation, production and cost analysis under different market conditions, forecasting and decision making under uncertainty. Students taking this course are expected to have had some exposure to economics and be comfortable with basic algebra. Some knowledge of calculus would also be helpful although not necessary.

  • Personal development management and Coaching

The course is designed for students or professionals to explore opportunities and challenges critical to achieving career and organizational success. Students will energize and reinvent themselves through a process of reflection and personal development. Their organization will immediately benefit from their ability to successfully impact performance by expertly managing themselves and applying these lessons to managing others.

Throughout the course the students you will answer three key questions:
How do they most effectively interact with others? In what environments do they work at their best? How are they empowered and motivated to work self-sufficiently? Trainers and coaches work closely with students in uncovering key strengths in career management. Sessions include self-awareness, environmental assessment/understanding, leading and relationships, mentoring/coaching and the development of a career action plan.

  • Healthcare systems and Health technology assessment

The course consists of three parts: healthcare systems description, Clinical Evidence and Economic Evidence. In the beginning various healthcare systems will be descibed. Middle part of the course will examine the nature of clinical evidence. Participants will learn the strengths and weaknesses of alternative study designs such as randomized controlled trials and observational research and understand how evidence strength is graded. We will also review common measures of effectiveness used in the medical literature so participants can understand the outcomes that are commonly reported in health technology assessments.

Other lectures will explore the idea of value – the relationship between cost and health benefit. Participants will learn the key concepts and designs in cost effectiveness analysis, how to perform a simple analysis, and how to appraise and interpret cost effectiveness analyses that are part of health technology assessments. Also, issues related to ethical and social areas will be discussed as well.

  • Marketing

This marketing course consits of several parts: general marketing theory, research tools and their application. Students will be exposed to implementing a research study, analysis and many more analytical techniques to give them the ability to critically evaluate and present the results of a research study. Students will generate strategic insights from basic marketing research and become familiar with marketing research terminology commonly used by research consultants. During the course various sectors and their specifics will be discussed (e.g. Education, Healthcare, Pharmacy, but high-tech, financial products, retail and other sectors will be discussed as well).

  • Risk management (business and public sector inter-related issues)

Risk Management course prepares students to handle such complex issues as employee rights and benefits, insurance for health casualties, liabilities companies face and labor employment regulation. Students will learn about preventing unnecessary risk for companies, an essential need for private and governmental organizations. Estimation in property, environmental issues and insurance underwriting processes can all cost companies money and time. This course will give students the tools and knowledge to deal with these issues in a timely, cost-effective manner.

  • Meetings with professionals | Practice

This is not a course per se. This is a default part of each MBA programme we offer. Meetings are to last at least 2-3 weeks by default and are designed to meet as many interesting people while making contacts in fields students are interested in. Whole two-three weeks of field trips and discussions with managers in specific areas are done to enlarge the network of contacts and gain certain experience from colleagues working in the sectors of interest to the MBA programme participants. As this requires 2-3 weeks of visa stay in the Czech Republic, we allow this can be skipped if a candidate proves that he or she already passed a practice related to studied MBA programme.
